Donut Ice Cream Sandwiches #nationaldonutday

These have to be my favorite summertime treat, not only are they the perfect combination of donuts and ice cream, they are easy to make and loved by adults and kids alike.
Perfect for National Donut (doughnut) Day on June 3rd

Day old donuts work the best, I put them in the freezer for 2-3 hours, overnight is just fine. It makes the donuts much easier to slice and gives a nice clean cut. Freeze them also helps keep the donuts from getting soggy from the ice cream.

After frozen, simply slice the donuts in half, then take a scoop of your favorite ice cream and place it on one half, them place the other half on top to make the sandwich. I like to call them donutwiches, or just yummy!

You can place the prepared donutwiches back in the freezer and they’ll keep for a few day, if you wanted to make them ahead of time for summer parties. These are also a big hit whenever I make them for birthday parties!

Hats off, it’s Sunday!

Life gets complicated, I miss the leisurely Sunday, the kind my grandfather would have, he never lifted a hand to work on Sundays, it was an important rule in his house, a day of rest, a day he started out by attending church, a day spent with the family and enjoying all the things he worked so hard for during the week.
We wear many hats as mothers and fathers, it just doesn’t stop anymore; the teacher, the nurturer, carpenter, nurse, cook, and even household provider. We need to allow ourselves to take off all those hats and just be.

Go ahead! Treat yourself to a Veggie Smoothie

Sometimes I think the only ones eating their veggies in our house seem to be the bunnies, I buy bags of carrots, kale and apples, yet my kids are the ones eating it.

That is unless I call it a “treat” and we head over to the local Smoothie King! Why is it they’ll eat carrots, apples and kale, even avocado in a smoothie and not at home on the dinner plate?
My daughter put on an amazing powerpoint presentation with a friend over the weekend for a room of 50+ people, and instead of flowers she insisted we go to Smoothie King as a reward for her 3 months of hard work.

To make it even more special we went out in the yard and hand picked some blackberries, then I poured all our smoothies into mason jars, covered it with a cupcake liner and inserted a pretty paper straw and drank them on the porch. This is also a great idea for a summer party or picnic.
Every time we go she orders a new flavor and every time it then becomes her new favorite, which is now Berry Carrot Dream, though it’s hard for her to admit she likes carrots. But for me that’s not a problem and new limited time only Avocado Pineapple Smoothie is my new favorite, but isn’t anything with pineapple awesome! I had a friend successfully grow pineapple in her backyard and she doesn’t even live in Hawaii, so I’m thinking I need to test my green thumb and try it.

Making spring cleaning a fun family chore, seriously!

It’s hot around here, I think we’ve skipped over Spring and went right into Summer, so it’s time to give the house a good cleaning, especially since the major demo in our remodeling is done. I’m in love with the Lemi Shine products the products are powerful and safe (100% natural citric extracts), the Liquid Dish Soap, Shower & Tile Cleaner, and the Glass & Surface cleaners are my new favorites. I use a lot of vinegar to clean but it’s not always the best for some surfaces, so it’s good to find an alternative that I feel comfortable using around my kids.

Home remodeling is an adventure and a full kitchen reno is even more interesting, we have a beautiful farmhouse sink, but with no plumbing as of today, so it’s a bit rustic around here lately. Now that it’s hot enough outside, the kids look forward to any activity that involves getting wet, even washing the dirty dishes.

I wish I had video of them cleaning up their bathroom, the comments were priceless. “I haven’t seen the faucet this clean in 10 years”, I had to laugh since we’ve only lived in our current house for less than a year. There were also plenty of ohs and ahs, I even over heard them remark on how great it was that Lemi Shine was ammonia free and made with 100% natural citrus extracts. I don’t want to get overly excite, but I think my girls might actually help me clean now!
