DIY: Pool Noodle Race Car Track

It’s Wednesday my favorite day of the week, when I was little it was the day my Dad took us for pizza when my Mom was at work, sometimes I still fell like a kid especially when were in the backyard holding matchbox derbies, we’re so excited to  show you our latest summer fun project, we actually it can be used all year round and is great indoors too!

Start your engines!

Now I saw this done with marbles, the noodle was a much small diameter, so when I saw the giant noodle on sale at the grocery store we snagged the last one!

My new obsession other than drilling holes in toys is matchbox cars, wait till I show you are flying ones!

But that will have to wait for another week since their just so so cool they deserve their own DIY post.

  1. Buy an extra large diameter foam pool noodle, I got mine 1/2 price at the super market ($1.50)
  2. cut the noodle in half with a serrated knife (one side than the other side or electric knife you can cut straight through both sides)
  3. once the noodle is in two pieces lay them on the ground side by side
  4. insert toothpicks where the two halves of the foam noodles touch each other
  5. use as many toothpicks as need to hold the noodle tracks tight together
  6. then with a need nose pliers clip the ends of the tooth picks flush to the noodle

Now you’re ready to decorate your track

Using cardstock at toothpicks I created small flags for along the sides of the track

Again with cardstock cut to size I stamped Start and Finish then I cut wooden or bamboo skewers down to size leaving the pointed end exposed (makes it easier to insert into the foam) I then used fast drying Aleene’s Tacky glue I glued the two pieces of cardstock together with the cut ends of the wooden skewers sandwiched in between and we were ready to race!

Finally just prop the track up on a chair, table, bed, pretty much anything, the higher the prop the faster the cars go.

17 is my lucky number, guess who won?

I don’t bet on the races but it wouldn’t have hurt this time.

This DIY project rates low on the skill level scale, it was very easy and I came out looking like Super Mom!

VitaTops: Indulge Smart from the Heart

Most of the time we are running out the door every morning in 4 different direction, I love having fresh bake goods ready for the kiddos when they wake up but it’s not always doable and the usual alternatives aren’t really our kind of morning fix. So when I discovered VitaTops™ MuffinTops, I couldn’t have been more excited, except when I read they are low fat, high fiber and only made with clean and simple ingredients. Each of the MuffinTops has its own unique health benefits from Organic ingredients, Superfoods like flax & Chia seed, protein-rich and Gluten Free. Yay!!!

Our local Publix has the Deep Chocolate and Wild Blueberry VitaTops on isle 14 in the frozen section, now we can indulge in delicious VitaTops MuffinTops, even when I don’t have time to bake I can still surprise the kids, and better yet turn them into fun shapes on Valentine’s Day or make yummy nut butter and fluff filled muffin sandwiches for their lunch boxes.

…One happy shopper, she found her favorite VitaTops!

Go ahead! Treat yourself to a Veggie Smoothie

Sometimes I think the only ones eating their veggies in our house seem to be the bunnies, I buy bags of carrots, kale and apples, yet my kids are the ones eating it.

That is unless I call it a “treat” and we head over to the local Smoothie King! Why is it they’ll eat carrots, apples and kale, even avocado in a smoothie and not at home on the dinner plate?
My daughter put on an amazing powerpoint presentation with a friend over the weekend for a room of 50+ people, and instead of flowers she insisted we go to Smoothie King as a reward for her 3 months of hard work.

To make it even more special we went out in the yard and hand picked some blackberries, then I poured all our smoothies into mason jars, covered it with a cupcake liner and inserted a pretty paper straw and drank them on the porch. This is also a great idea for a summer party or picnic.
Every time we go she orders a new flavor and every time it then becomes her new favorite, which is now Berry Carrot Dream, though it’s hard for her to admit she likes carrots. But for me that’s not a problem and new limited time only Avocado Pineapple Smoothie is my new favorite, but isn’t anything with pineapple awesome! I had a friend successfully grow pineapple in her backyard and she doesn’t even live in Hawaii, so I’m thinking I need to test my green thumb and try it.

Egg Shell & Flower Spring Centerpieces

I’ve been busy pruning back the trees and cleaning out the flowerbeds, I hated to have to toss
all the pretty clippings into the compost pile so I came up with three really easy table
centerpieces so we could enjoy all the beautiful flowers.
The first one I made by punching 9 holes in the metal lid of a Del Monte fruit jar , the holes
in 2 hole sizes to accommodate different stems.
Next was a french lemonade bottle, it’s really good lemonade we got ours at T.J. Maxx but
the sell the same drink at World Market too.
Then finally I added some soil into our left over egg shells, I thought they were beautiful and had
been saving the cleaned out shells on my kitchen window sill for some time now waiting to
turn them into something special and the ceramic egg cartons were my find of the week for $2.99 at T.J. Maxx!

DIY: Easy tension rod paper towel holder

Winter’s setting in here, well we might not get snow but the cold is enough to want to stay home by the fireplace. Stocking up supplies keeps me from having to bundle up and head out in this in the cold weather, except for the occasional Mardi Gras parade, we’re always hungry for moon pies.
Dollar General,  is right around the corner and with their new Digital Coupons I can stock up on month’s worth of SCOTT® paper product.
I was surprised at how long SCOTT® bath tissue lasts in our household, haven’t had to restock since before the holidays.
But with all the art projects and bunnies we I made sure to grabbed another Scotts Bonus Pack of paper towel, which proved handy over the weekend  when the kids flooded their bathroom. Don’t ask, but all I can say is we need a professional plumber.
I found a simple solution to a on the spot no tools needed paper towel holder… a tension rod! Just find a place you’d want paper towels, a drawer, under the cabinet, book shelf, where ever, then measure the span of where you decided, buy the appropriate length tension rod and install. I choose to place ours in the kids bathroom, easy to access for bathroom clean up and the rod is enough to hold two rolls or a roll and a bath towel. This can be done with bath tissue too!

We love Handprint T-shirt art

Paper towels for me as a crafter and mom, like many of you, have become an my must have. I need them within reach at all times, I don’t think there’s anything I do that doesn’t benefit from having paper towels on hand, from art projects, to making dinner, photography shoots to bunnies, it has me covered and being eco minded I don’t like to waste, so Scott Choose-A-Sheet are the ones we use from messes big and small.
Does it looks like petals of a rose opening up for the first time, see my paper towel obsession is real!
The holidays can start to get expensive so I try and save where ever and when ever I can.
Dollar General’s new Digital Coupons are surprising easy the to redeem from a lot of great brands. You’ll need to try it out!

Our house is about as busy as Santa’s workshop right noes, we have a ton of art projects to get done. There was enough paint covered fingers to induce anxiety in any mom, it was enough to make my hair turn gray, or red, yellow and green, yikes!
Handprint t-shirt art was lots of fun, super messy but they turn out great.

Supplies:

cotton t-shirts
foam brushes
multi-surface paints in many colors
painter’s tape
cardboard
Steps:
Tape off an area on the t-shirt you’d for the handprints design. Next spell out the word LOVE in tape inside the taped off box. Place a piece of cardboard and paper towel inside the t-shirt under your design. Next using sponge brushes, cover the hands with a generous amount of paint, then pressing the hand firmly within the taped off box, repeat. Make sure to cover the taped word LOVE completely with painted hand prints. When the paint is dry, peel off the tape, you design will now be visible.
Scott’s had us covered from our hands, to the table, the walls and sink and the kids wondered why I was wearing the most colorful, ugly sweater on I could find….paint attack!

DIY: Fun Festive Holiday Dinner Plates

It’s holiday crunch time, prep, prepare and decorate the house.
We have very plain plates, white, black, yellow and clear glass, none of which are remotely festive. Our holiday table needed to be more merry and bright, it was looking a bit dull and boring. I one of those who have no china passed down from Grandma, no holiday traditions used for generations and no holiday art made by the kids at made at school, so we decided to brighten up our table using scissor, some glue, our clear glass dinner plates and holiday gift wrap paper from Hallmark Gold Crown.

Each of the kids pick out their Hallmark wrapping paper and chose an animal to adorn their holiday plate.
After a few hours of cutting, a lot of glue, one or two wrapping paper sword fights and barton twirling competition, all in good fun and we now have some awesome plates to use for our next holiday meal!
I think my momma bird plate turned out pretty good. All the colors match our decor perfectly and layer nicely with our exciting dinner plates, the kids are so excite to use theirs!

Watch our video link for the full DIY Holiday Dinner Plate instruction. It’s pretty easy, just a some cutting and pasting, even the kiddos can join in on the fun! Hallmark has so many wonderful gifts for the holidays, we couldn’t help but picked up a couple gift items for friends.

Step by step DIY video accompanied with some great Reggae music and cute kids.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Many thanks to Hallmark Gold Crown for sponsoring today’s story and encouraging me to try my more creative side using gift wrap.
